Description
I was first introduced to James Baldwin in 2002. I sat up an entire night devouring “Another Country” and the rosy picture of USA I had imagined as I was starting my graduate studies crumbled. The twin towers had just fallen and the world was changing. I have since then, reread his books, essays, listened to his speeches, discussions, debates. His words and characters are a part of me, somehow. He was, is, and will be my favorite writer and activist and an LGBTQ icon.
Art and activism go hand in hand.
You cannot make art until you are free.
You cannot be free until ALL are free. “The role of the artist is exactly the same as the role of the lover. If I love you, I have to make you conscious of the things you don’t see.” ― James Baldwin
This is a sketch, tribute, a watercolor ode to his genius and in solidarity with #blacklivesmatter Back home, do remember that #minoritieslivesmatter #dalitlivesmatter and please live and let live.
