Morning Coffee

Description

The idea is something I joke around with my husband often. In Indian movies, particularly south Indian, the ideal wife is shown like this, washed hair tied in a towel, fresh faced, doing a Rangoli and waking up the husband with a steaming cup of coffee. Even today when I have my hair up in a towel we smile reminiscing about my hatred for this picture perfect misrepresentation.
Have you ever wondered, What about her coffee? What about her morning? So I tried to paint the lady in costume, reading a newspaper and enjoying her coffee beside a Rangoli. It’s a subtle poking of conscience at expectations you have of gender roles. Hope you like it as much as I do.
